Want to qualify as a Yoga Teacher but unable to travel?
We have worked with Yoga Alliance to secure a new pathway for you to graduate as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) online during the COVID-19 period.
Given the circumstances, Yoga Alliance have agreed to allow students to now either begin or complete their yoga teacher training online until such a time as they are able to gather together. We have reconfigured our Level 1 200-hour program so you can complete your yoga teacher training online virtually from the comfort of your own home.
As well as this we open our doors for you to join us in person to experience a live training in full (or part thereof if preferred) at a later date which suits you – once normal proceedings have returned 🙂

I want to be a yoga teacher - is this course for me?
Yes, this is the one for you! Our Santosha Level 1 training is fully registered with Yoga Alliance, meaning upon graduation you can immediately sign up to the most trusted and recognised Yoga Teaching organisation in the world, allowing you to teach in studios and gyms all over the globe.
I don't want to be a yoga teacher - is this course for me?
Our Santosha courses are more than just teacher trainings, they are a chance to transform and grow. Even if teaching is not your goal, you will dive deeper into your own practice, share a unique transformational experience and be supported by open-hearted and caring teachers and friends. So yes, if you want to transform your mind, your body and your life then this course is for you!
What is the cost of the Santosha Level 1 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training?
The cost of our training is AUD $2,990 (or AUD $2,790 early bird discount if you pay in full two months early) This includes your tuition and certificate, but does not cover flights, food and accommodation.
How much is that in US dollars/ my local currency?
If you are used to US dollars, our course investment converts to approximately $2,150 US (or $2,000 US early bird - paid in full two months early). This makes our course one the most affordable on the market - we want to spread the joy of yoga, so are committed to ensuring the cost is as low as it can be while still providing a top quality training for our students.

How much do I need to hold my place?
You can enroll with a $350 AU (approx $250 US) deposit. The remainder of the payment is due on week before your training will begin. You can also opt for a payment plan of 5 fortnightly installments.
When does the earlybird discount expire?
For any course the earlybird discount expires two months before the course start date - so it depends on which course you wish to join. The earlybird applies to the full payment only not the deposit. You must pay in full two months before your course begins to receive the savings.

We will be holding most of our 2020 courses on the chilled out island of Nusa Lembongan, Bali, with special trainings in Sri Lanka, Morocco and Costa Rica.

Will I be accepted into the Santosha Level 1 RYT-200 Yoga Teacher Training?
Yes, we believe that all people are deserving of changing their lives. Subsequently, the only prerequisite is a sincere desire in your heart to change not only your life, but the lives of others and to fully dedicate yourself during the full 25 days of the training.
How proficient at yoga do you have to be to join the Santosha Level 1 RYT-200 Yoga Teacher Training?
During the Level 1 RYT-200 Yoga Teacher Training program you will have asana practice every morning, and again in the afternoon. We recommend that students have some form of an asana practice and are relatively comfortable practicing daily. If you have just taken up yoga you may need to give yourself a few months practice in order to benefit from the training. That said, if you have a regular yoga practice you may be more ready than you think.
An advanced practitioner is not necessarily a person who can move deeply into advanced postures; an advanced practitioner is someone who comes to the mat with a level of maturity, a willingness to learn and an understanding of the limits of their own body. Keep in mind that this program is not only for aspiring teachers but for people who want to deepen their practice. For both students wishing to seek a deeper understanding and take their practice to a more advanced level or for those who wish to teach, there are no pre-requisites for this course.
I have been practicing yoga for a long time, will this course be suitable for me?
A long time practice is a wonderful aspect that will serve you well during the Yoga Teacher Training but it doesn't mean that you have to be an experienced Yogi to do a YTT - or that as an experienced Yogi, you will not learn anything new! You will be taught how to teach Yoga authentically as it was supposed to be taught, taught how to modify and adapt poses to suit your students individual needs, how to use the breath appropriately and much more. Your own practice will expand in a beautiful way!
Once I have completed my Level One Training am I eligible for registration with Yoga Alliance?
Yes, once having completed the Yoga Teacher Training certification our students are eligible for registration with Yoga Alliance. This means your certificate will be recognised the world over! We are registered with Yoga Alliance and ask that you go through this organisation to enable us speedy and simple approval of your credentials. If you wish to register with an alternative Yoga organisation after graduation, please check with this body prior to signing up for the course that our RYT-200 course will be eligible for registration with them.
Do we get any time off during the training?
We include three full days off during our Level 1 training, so you have some time to relax, surf, study, get a massage or maybe take a day trip somewhere nice. During the day there is some time during breakfast and lunch to enjoy yourself (and perhaps fit in a surf!)
How long in the Level 1 200 hour training?
The course runs over 24 days, including 3 days off.
What is a typical day like?
An example of a typical day on our training would be:
6:00 – 8:00 am – Asana - Pranayama - Meditation
8:00 – 9:15 am – Breakfast
9:15 – 11:30 am – Yoga Studies*
11:30- 1:45 pm – Yoga Studies*
1:45 – 3:00 pm – Lunch
3:00 – 4:00 pm – Yoga Studies*
4:00 - 5:00 pm - Asana + Meditation
5:00 - 5:30 pm - Mindfullness / Meditation/ Yoga Nidra

This is a guide only – training times can change to meet the needs of that month. The days are long - as we need to fit the required hours for a Yoga Alliance RTY-200 into 24 days.
What experience/qualifications do you need for the Level 1 Yoga Instructor class?
A passion for yoga and a desire to transform your life for the better is all you need to join us on our Level 1 Training. Over the intensive we will teach you everything you need to safely and effectively teach yoga to others along, with tools for happier, more authentic heart-centered living.
I am fairly new to yoga. Will I be able to attend the training?
As the course is not purely asana (physical postures) based it does not matter if you do not have an advanced practice. You will be learning much more than just the asana postures. All we ask for a Santosha student is an open mind and heart and willingness commit yourself completely to study and attend all classes throughout the 24 days of your training.
I'm not super flexible, can I still join up?
Our philosophy is that there is no "one size fits all yoga". Yoga should fit your body, not the other way around. So some people may never get into particular postures, but if they are working with attention and intention they are practicing yoga whether or not they can form every shape perfectly with their body.
I have been injured, can I even be a yoga teacher?
You do not need to have the perfect, injury free body to be a yoga teacher. If there are postures you cannot demonstrate in a class you can honestly explain to your students the reasons why and get a class member to demo the posture for you if needed, or work off verbal cues. We actually find that teachers who have had issues themselves with their bodies are far better at being aware of student's limitations and keeping them safe, as they are conscious of the care needed to look after an injury or area with limited flexibility or mobility. So instead of thinking of your injuries as a hindrance to teaching and participating in the course, realise that they can be an asset to your awareness and understanding as a teacher.
I have an injury, will I be okay to attend?
As long as you work to your own level - resting whenever you need - and let the teachers know if any health issues arise, then you will have no trouble with the classes.
However, it is your responsibility to:
- Let all your teachers know (we give them a list of injuries but it helps to remind them)
- Follow all modifications given and speak up if pain or discomfort still persists and further assistance/ modification is needed
- Rest when needed, and take breaks during class rather than push through any pain/ discomfort
- Communicate any changes in your condition
Please inform us as soon as you can with regards to any injuries. Our teachers are trained to take injuries into account and will teach accordingly, but the more warning we have the more information we can gather to best assist you. It is also your job to speak up and let your asana (and postures) teacher informed if conditions worsen or change.
As long as you work to your own level - resting whenever you need - and let the teachers know if any health issues arise, then you will have no trouble with the classes. We have had injured and pregnant students complete the training many times.

These can be purchased as books, or electronic downloads for kindle etc. The Power of Now can also be purchased as an audiobook.
Are there course Manuals?
Yes, once you enrol in the training you will be sent access to a Resource Centre with all the course materials - including our Course Manuals - you will need for the training. You have the choice of downloading or printing these items to use during the course and beyond.
I don't have access to a printer and am not bringing a device to download the manuals onto. What do I do?
We can order printed manuals for you from a printer in Bali for $50 AUD. An email will be sent out about this with the Manuals one week before the training begins - please reply then and let us know you would like to order these and we will arrange for you.
What are the Mandatory Items to bring to the training?
- Yoga Mat - there will be some available for purchase if you do not have one

Will I have life-long access to the course resources?
Yes! Once you are a Santosha student you will have life-long access to our Resource Centre and Manuals - plus links to our video resources. You will also be invited to join the Worldwide facebook group, which has links to jobs, teaching tips, discussion and more. And we are always just an email away for help and questions - you will always be a part of the Santosha family and we will support you at every stage of your yoga journey.
I can't get the full time off work, is there any way I can still do the training?
We understand that not everyone can enjoy a 25 day break from their everyday life (though we do highly recommend it if you can!) With this in mind we have designed our Level 1 course to be able to be completed in several parts, for those that are unable to commit to the full training in one go. Generally our part-time students do half of one training, then complete their studies at a second training later in the year. Please get in touch directly with us at [email protected] if you are considering this option.
I’m pregnant, can I still attend the course?
It is possible to complete the course while pregnant, but we ask that the decision is made only with the consultation and full support of your doctor. Only they can advise if this is the best course of action for you. All pregnant students must provide medical clearance via a medical certificate on the first day of the training and email Santosha upon enrollment to formulate an individual pregnancy plan to best keep you (and baby!) safe and comfortable during your time with Santosha. You must keep teachers advised of any physical ailments or issues arising from your pregnancy, so they can best assist and support you when needed.

You will fly into Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport. Your boat company can organise airport pick-up as part of your boat package.
How do I get to Santosha Yoga Village on Nusa Lembongan?
Getting to the island is easy and simple:
1. Fly into Bali - Denpasar (Ngurah Rai) International Airport, Bali, Indonesia
We recommend travelling to Bali and arriving on the island one day before your course begins, as you will start day one at 11am. Something to keep in mind when planning your travel is the last boat across to Nusa Lembongan each day leaves Sanur at 5pm.

You will need to organise your travel so you will be in the island and ready to begin your studies at 11am on the first day of your training. Is there any chance to go on any travel excursions in between my training period?
Yes, there are three days off which you can use to surf, dive, snorkel, relax, island hop and explore the neighbouring islands via boat.

Money + ATMS
We highly recommend bringing money to change into IDR when in Bali. This is because:
a. ATMs fees are exorbitant here.
b. Scammers frequently run card-skimming operations from ATMS
c. The ATM on island is a fair distance from the shala (ask staff for directions)
There are money changers on the main road in Nusa Lembongan, or change in Bali/ Sanur for a slightly better rate. We can point you in the direction of money changers in Nusa Lembongan if you need help. Just ask at the Welcome Circle.
If you do need to use an ATM find an air-conditioned one attached to a bank, preferably with a security guard. Stand alone ATMs are NOT advised.
Is the tap water safe for drinking?
No, please bring your own refillable water bottle for drinking and brushing teeth. There is filtered water available for a small cost from cafes including Ginger and Jamu - if you bring a refillable water bottle this can be filled everyday and avoid the use of plastic single use water bottles.
What Plug Will I need?
In Bali and Indonesia you can expect the 2 pin socket and plug as used in larger parts of Europe. The pins are round, not flat or rectangular. If you come from Australia, Japan, USA, Malaysia, UK, Canada, Singapore you will most likely simply need a plug adapter otherwise the plugs for your electrical appliances will not fit into the "Bali Socket", although the voltage should be o.k. You can get those at all international airports and once you are in Bali, they can be found in the many small shops in Nusa Lembongan for a few dollars. How do I do laundry on the island?
Your guesthouse will likely offer a laundry pick-up and drop-off if you ask. Otherwise it is very cheap to get your clothes washed and dried at one of the small local laundries close to our shala. Ask our team if you cannot find one and they will point you in the right direction. Thrifty students may like to buy washing powder at the shops and hand-wash their laundry in the bathroom sink. Are there supermarkets on the island?
There are small supermarkets on the main street Jungutbatu. If you cannot find one to suit your needs, ask our team if you cannot find one and they will point you in the right direction.
Where can I buy fresh fruit and snacks?
There are many small shops along the main street with snacks - both healthy and not so healthy. Some also sell fresh fruit and coconuts. There is also a daily morning market (6am - 9am) by the field opposite Green Garden Warung.
Are there Mosquitoes in Bali?
Yes, like most tropical countries Bali does have mosquitoes! The most effective mosquito repellents contain DEET. Repel Tropical Strength repellents contain 30-40% DEET which is considered optimum for adults. There is a local product - Sofitel - which is as effective insect repellent, otherwise bring your own. What is the best way to avoid illness?
With getting sick, it can happen but most likely won't if you follow some simple guidelines. The most common illness is "Travel Belly" - basically upset stomach or travellers' diarrhoea. Caused by a change in diet and lifestyle, the symptoms generally include:
- Abdominal bloating, cramps and pain
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Urgency/frequency in going to the toilet
- Diarrhoea
- Mild temperature
- General malaise (weakness or discomfort)
Sometimes caused by bacteria found in local foods or drinking water but most often caused by an increase in exotic foods, too much food or an increase in alcohol intake, Travel Belly is treatable and will usually clear itself up sometimes within 24 hours, other times is may take a couple of days or even up to a week.
The best way to avoid this it is:
- Drink and brush teeth with bottled water only
- Eat mainly onsite - or at restaurants that have western hygiene standards (eg. food not sitting around in sun, etc)
- Rest on your days off and in breaks - don't push yourself too hard
- Wash hands regularly and use sanitized hand gel
- Pack anti-nausea medication (ask your doctor or chemist) or activated charcoal and take at first sign of stomach upset
- Also bring hydralyte so if you do get sick you can avoid dehydration and you will recover much faster
- Coconut water and 'Pocari Sweat' also contain electrlytes, so are a good local alternate
- Don't stress too much, you probably will not get sick and if you do it will quickly pass - especially if you follow the above

Showing Respect to Local Culture
Bali is multi-religious and consists of Christian, Muslim and Buddhist minorities, however, the predominant religion in Bali is Hinduism, making up approximately 90% of the population. One of our favourite things about Bali is the rich spiritual life that permeates the island. To respect local culture we advise following these tips:
- In Bali; it is said that the soul resides in the person’s head, so don’t touch a person or a child’s head because it is considered sacred.
- You have to wear a sarong and a sash when entering any Hindu temple, you can get one at the entrance
- Give a donation to the temple
- Don’t enter a temple wearing shoes and always cover up your shoulders.
- Don’t take off your t-shirt or hang out in your swimming outfit when walking the streets even if it is too hot. The majority of Bali follows Hindu traditions, so make sure to stay conservative and limit swimsuits to the beach only.
- Avoid pointing with your finger against the Balinese. They take it as a disrespectful manner.
- As a mark of respect; avoid walking on the ceremonial offerings in the street. They are extremely sacred and deserve respect.
- One way to enjoy Bali is to watch the religious ceremonies all around the island.
- To be more sociable try to learn some basic Balinese phrases.
- Don’t point at or touch someone with your feet, Balinese considers it very offensive.
- Don’t smoke in public areas. It is prohibited in restaurants, hotels, temples and tourist attractions since 2011 when the “smoke-free” by-law went into effect.
Temples
Dress modestly before entering a temple in Bali. Temple guests are expected to wear shirts that cover shoulders and part of the upper arms. The waist and legs should be covered by a temple scarf (known as a selendang) and a sarong (known locally as kain kamben) respectively.

What Visa is required to enter Bali?
The Visa required for the training is the 30 day tourist visa - most countries are eligible for a free Visa, but be aware that if you chose this option you cannot extend your time in Bali beyond 30 days without leaving Indonesia. With extending the Visa for further travel time, you can apply and pay for an extended 30 days on your tourist visa while in Bali without having to leave the country, giving you a total of 60 days. We can help put you in touch with a Visa Agent in Bali, just let us know at the start of your training if you are planning to stay longer than 30 days and we will help arrange this for you.
If you wish to extend the Visa you must not choose the free Visa Option – you must insist on paying the fee. Otherwise you will have to leave Bali to extend beyond 30 days! Always pay for the Visa if you want to extend.

I've never travelled by myself before, will I be okay on my own?
Fear and nervousness are common feelings (along with excitement!) that people experience in preparation for the training. The good news is that you are likely in the same boat as 99% of your classmates - the majority of our students are attending the course on their own. This means you'll instantly meet a great group of individuals who are just as keen to make new friends and support each other as you. Your guesthouse will be able to prearrange a airport pick-up for you, taking the stress out of arriving in a new country and finding you way to our course location. Once you are here you will be immersed in a community of caring and supportive teachers and yogis who will walk beside you at every step of the way.

We recommend checking with your hotel beforehand if you can use a credit card to pay, as most places in Bali are cash only. In this case, make sure you have enough cash handy to settle your bill at the end of your stay.
Will my room have wifi?
Most guesthouses do have wifi - but if this is important to you it pays to double check.

How much you spend will depend where you choose to eat. Local “warungs” can cost between 10,000 - 20,0000 IDR a meal; western style establishments will be around approx. 50.000 - 100.000 IDR for a meal, not including drinks. Fresh juices are around 20.000 - 30.000 IDR.

How do I get around?

How do I get a SIM card?
You can buy a SIM as soon as you step off the plane at Bandaranaike airport but they offer the “tourist” packages. If you can wait go to any shop in Dikwella or along the way with. 'Dialog' sign you can buy one at a cheaper rate.
You will need to show your passport, and specify that you want data only (unless you do want credit). They will assist you easily.

What airport should I fly into for the course?
Morocco is served by direct flights from the UK and other major European airports, with flight times to Agadir between 2-4 hours. Guests travelling from the US can connect either in Casablanca or at a European airport as there are no direct flights to Agadir.
From Agadir airport, it’s a 45-minute drive south-east along the coast road. Transfers from Agadir are included in your accommodation and meals package - no extra costs incurred.
Road transfers from Marrakech airport can be easily arranged and the new motorway has dramatically cut the journey times down to 2 -3 hours and cost approx £80 for 4 people. Surf Maroc can book one for you. Payments for the transfer are made directly to your driver.

You will need to organise your travel so you will be ready to begin your studies at 11am on the first day of your training. Most students arrive the day before so they have time to settle into their accommodation and find their bearings etc.
Is there any chance to go on any travel excursions in between my training period?
Yes, there are 3 days off which you can use to surf, explore, relax, visit desert and bazaars, and explore this fascinating and beautiful country. Surf Maroc can organise optional extra activities such as surfing, visits to the hammam & massage, local markets, Essaouira, horse riding, camel riding, quad biking are easily arranged upon request on days off
What is the currency for Morocco?

More established shops will take credit card, but most smaller markets, street vendors, and cabs will not. Be ready with local currency. Moroccan cab drivers rarely “have change” when you need it. To avoid overpaying, keep coins on you when travelling.

What is the weather like in Tagahzout?
In Taghazout, the summers are short, warm, muggy, arid, and clear and the winters are short, cool, and mostly clear. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 48°F to 78°F and is rarely below 42°F or above 86°F. Based on the beach/pool score, the best time of year to visit Taghazout for hot-weather activities is from early July to early September. More info here:

How do I book flights?

Is the tap water safe for drinking?
Although officially safe, it is still best to drink filtered water. Please bring your own refillable water bottle for drinking and brushing teeth. There is filtered water available for a small cost from cafes - if you bring a refillable water bottle this can be filled everyday and avoid the use of plastic single use water bottles.
What Plug Will I need?
For Morocco there are two associated plug types, types C and E. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type E is the plug which has two round pins and a hole for the socket’s male earthing pin. How do I do laundry?
Surf Maroc offer a laundry pick-up and drop-off if you ask. Thrifty students may like to buy washing powder at the shops and hand-wash their laundry in the bathroom sink. The heat in Morocco means clothes will be quick to dry 🙂
How should I dress?
Overall, guys can dress however they like, but women need to dress more conservatively. Although you see many tourists wearing whatever they want, we chose to cover up as much as possible to avoid unwanted attention. Keep a scarf/ shawl handy. When visiting mosques, you need to cover down to your wrists and ankles.
What is the best way to avoid illness?
With getting sick, it can happen but most likely won't if you follow some simple guidelines. The most common illness is "Travel Belly" - basically upset stomach or travellers' diarrhoea.
The best way to avoid this it is:
- Drink and brush teeth with bottled water only
- Eat mainly onsite - or at restaurants that have western hygiene standards (eg. food not sitting around in sun, etc)
- Rest on your days off and in breaks - don't push yourself too hard
- Wash hands regularly and use sanitized hand gel
- Pack anti-nausea medication (ask your doctor or chemist) or activated charcoal and take at first sign of stomach upset
- Also bring hydralyte so if you do get sick you can avoid dehydration and you will recover much faster
- Coconut water and 'Pocari Sweat' also contain electrlytes, so are a good local alternate
- Don't stress too much, you probably will not get sick and if you do it will quickly pass - especially if you follow the above

The good news is that you are likely in the same boat as 99% of your classmates - the majority of our students are attending the course on their own. This means you'll instantly meet a great group of individuals who are just as keen to make new friends and support each other as you.

How do I get to Atrapasueños – Dreamcatcher Hotel?
By land: It is an hour drive from San Jose Airport to Puntarenas where you should take the Ferry to Paquera, the ride through the Nicoya Gulf takes 1 hour and fifteen minutes. From Paquera you continue driving through Tambor, Cobano and then Malpais-Santa Teresa; at the crossroads you turn right and one kilometre further you will find Atrapasuenos – Dreamcatcher.
By air: Malpais- Santa Teresa is 40 minutes away from the domestic airport of Tambor. There are daily flights from San Jose to/from Tambor. The flight is about 25 minutes. Fly directly from San Jose to Tambor, than take a taxi to Mal Pais – Santa Teresa.
By bus: There is a direct bus from San Jose, with several departure options.
By shuttle: We are happy to arrange a shuttle from the San Jose Airport.

Are there Mosquitoes in Costa Rica?
Yes, like most tropical countries Costa Rica does have mosquitoes! The most effective mosquito repellents contain DEET. Repel Tropical Strength repellents contain 30-40% DEET which is considered optimum for adults. More information and tips here:

What Visa is required to enter Costa Rica?
According to the immigration department of Costa Rica, there are 4 different groups of international countries that have four different visa requirements for their citizens to enter, visit and stay in Costa Rica. Citizens of the first and second group of countries - including USA, Australia, NZ and Canada - do not require a Costa Rica visa. They will receive a visa on arrival and obtain an entry stamp in their passport. After receiving the entry visa, make sure to always double check the entry and exit stamps! Sometimes the authorities can make a mistake which can cause you some problems later on.
Citizens of the third and fourth groups of countries will be required to register for a restricted Costa Rica Visa which must be applied at least 90 days before expected travel.

I've never travelled by myself before, will I be okay on my own?
Fear and nervousness are common feelings (along with excitement!) that people experience in preparation for the training. The good news is that you are likely in the same boat as 99% of your classmates - the majority of our students are attending the course on their own. This means you'll instantly meet a great group of individuals who are just as keen to make new friends and support each other as you.
Dreamcatchers will prearrange an airport pick-up for you, taking the stress out of arriving in a new country and finding you way to our course location. Once you are here you will be immersed in a community of caring and supportive teachers and yogis who will walk beside you at every step of the way.

This is great way to experience communal yoga living and really get to know your fellow yogis during your time together! Introverts, do not be concerned. There are plenty of quiet and secluded places in the spacious buildings and gardens to find yourself some 'me' time 🙂

Your options for eating are plentiful!
Eating out - Thanks to the diverse community of Santa Teresa, eating out is cheap, easy and varied. You can choose between 90 different restaurants - from Argentinean Grill, to wood burning brick oven Italian pizza, amazing sushi, raw food options or authentic Costa Rican sodas - all easily accessible within a few minutes walk from our training site and with options to suit all budgets.
Cook your own - There are three kitchens available for our students use - with fridge, oven, stovetop, blender, toaster and microwaves - a great option for the budget-minded. Even better, you can easily pick up fresh, local ingredients at the organic market or local supermarket so you can access healthy and nutritious ingredients easily.
Meal packages - For those who prefer the ease of meal packages Dreamcatcher can arrange this for you with a local food vendor. Prices for this can be confirmed with Dreamcatcher closer to the time. Please register your interest with them when booking if you would like this service.
