Yoga Teacher Training Week Two #ILOVEYOGA

We are so lucky to have Elizabeth of The Flexible Yogi as our guest blogger for our June Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training! Let’s see how Week Two of our training is going for her…

Me after anatomy…

Me after anatomy….

Week two kicked-off with anatomy for yoga which combines body movement to connect body, breath and mind. It is a LOT of important information especially as it relates to safety for our future students. We learned some really neat concepts and if I had to impart one piece of wisdom to you it would be to take your spine health seriously. Oh, and skiing isn’t a good idea (don’t shoot the messenger).

From my understanding, it’s common in Yoga Teacher Trainings for the energy of the group to dip in the second week as the novelty wears off and the long days catch up with you. Luckily, our intuitive instructors were prepared with activities to combat fatigue. We practiced Kirtan which is the chanting of stories in Sanskrit. The idea of singing words I didn’t know was intimidating and I felt resistance initially but it ended up being one of my favorite things we’ve done so far. It was calming and invigorating and created a nice connection in the group.

The real treat came after with a deep meditation. It was probably only 30 minutes but as I came out of it, I felt like I had just gotten eight hours of deep sleep. #ILOVEYOGA

Tomorrow is our day off and we had hoped to go snorkelling however the ocean is too rough due to the new moon and the trip had to be postponed. I was bummed until I booked a massage and facial (90 minutes for 350,000 IDR aka ~$25 USD).  I plan on walking around the island and relaxing on the beach.

Some other interesting things that happened this week:

–      I had a reiki session with Jo that was truly special and helped perk my mood up. Highly recommend if you’re heading to Nusa Lembongan.

–      I’ve had fun learning international slang from my classmates like “keen” and “legend” and imitating each other’s accents.

–      Finally, I’ll leave you with this gem that came up in training: “Anything you create with your ego can be broken but anything you create with your heart can’t be destroyed.”
