Island Living on Nusa Lembongan

Yoga Teacher Training – Bali Travel Adventure!

Nusa Lembongan is a small island only 30 minutes by fastboat from Bali, home to some top dive and surf spots and loved for its chilled island vibe. It is also the latest destination for our Santosha Yoga Teacher Trainings! Yes, that’s right, we have a new island home. We are so excited to share our new favourite place in the sun with our Level 1 200 Hour and Level 2 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training students in 2017, and look forward to sharing a coconut on the beach with you all.

Still not convinced this is the perfect spot? Lucky we have a guest post just for you! Santosha Level 1 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training graduate, certified diver and sun-chaser Rose Grosse has recently spent some time on the island and shares her thoughts on this glorious isle. Rose, take us away…

Sunset

The sunsets make my evenings. The turquoise waters and the colourful underwater world brighten up my day. The diving here is amazing! Abundant marine life and vast colourful coral walls is why Indonesia has some of the best diving on the world! I’ve just had three days of exploring the dive sites around Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, and my mind is blown! I see why many people from around the world come here to travel out in small boats sometimes in rather large swell and dive in super strong currents to admire this beautiful underwater world.

Days start with usually fruit with rice porridge or eggs and a Bali coffee with coconut milk (I’m addicted to coconut!) After breakfast we walk along the beach to the dive shop, where we check over our equipment and pack our dive bags. Loading the boat from the beach, setting up our equipment, then after a few briefings and the tide is high off we go.. over the outer reef through the swell and past the surfers.

The vast coral walls glowing with colours disappearing deep into the oceans depths. Tropical fish are everywhere – Lion fish, Parrot Fish, Trumpet Fish, even a Sea Snake or two! The currents are strong, cross currents and down currents but keeping aware of my depth and surroundings, I just enjoy the ride!

The swell is easing off and we are able to head out to Manta point in search of Manta Rays. As this dive spot is a cleaning station it was not long until we are greeted by a rather large Manta Ray (around 3 meters wide) Soon after we are surrounded by these majestic creatures. Looking up towards the sun rays I watch their silhouettes dancing around us. Occasionally one would glide straight towards me only gentle turning away just inches from me almost as if it was just as curious of me as I was of it. Made for some good go-pro footage!

Well one week on the island already! Having explored the underwater world, seeing new species of sharks and rays. I’ve stacked it in style on my scooter trying to adventure the island (Mum I’m fine honestly!) (Santosha says: ALWAYS wear a helmet and check your insurance covers scooters!) We have been going out and eating some great food for a good price whilst watching almost every sunset from a new spot. Visiting places like Dream beach (beautiful but very touristy), the seaweed farms (interesting and smelly) and Devils Tears where the big swell kisses the rocky coast and sends fountains of water shooting into the air (this is a must see) The swell also peels along the other reef with almost always a wave to surf or just stand up paddle in the calm crystal clear waters along the beach. There are even boats made into water-parks with slides out all sides! Leaving this place will not be easy!

Thanks Rose for sharing your wonderful words and pictures with us! We will be right back… just after we’ve found that waterpark boat 😉
